Gallery 989: West Midlands Metro - December 2021

After over a month without any passenger services running on the West Midlands Metro operations resumed on Wednesday 15th December 2021 with sufficient numbers of trams available for use after repairs. As has been reported extensively the complete fleet of Urbos3 trams were withdrawn after the discovery of body cracks - cracks which had been seen earlier in the year but had believed to be have been fixed at the time. New and permanent repairs have now been undertaken and with some of the Urbos3 trams ready along with a few examples of the newer Urbos 100 trams also ready to run it was all systems go for a return to action. Currently a revised service up to every 10 minutes is operating from Wolverhampton St George's to Bull Street with this set to be improved (including an extension through Birmingham City Centre to Library) as more trams are readied for service. In this collection we take a look at the first couple of days of service with a focus on the first of the Urbos 100 trams in use - 38, 39 and 40. Photographer: Andy Walters
Photographs were taken on Wednesday 15th & Thursday 16th December 2021.
