Gallery 982: Blackpool Tramway - Tramtown |
The newest tram based attraction in Blackpool was officially launched during the Anniversary Weekend held at the end of September - Tramtown. As a precursor of a major visitor centre attraction in the future, regular behind the scenes tours are now taking place at Rigby Road Depot allowing the chance for the public to see some of the trams which haven't run for many years (many of which it will be decades before their chance for restoration comes along, if at all) and to hear about the history of the tramway and what the future may bring. These pre-bookable tours, running weekly, have provided to be incredibly popular with the limited tickets being snapped up by not only enthusiasts but the general public as well who want to get that glimpse behind the scenes.
This collection of photos is taken from two separate tours in September and October and gives a taste of what you can expect to see when being taken around Tramtown, including the main tram shed, Electrical Compound, Fitting Shop and Paint Shop. We see some of those long withdrawn trams, trams under attention and some of the operational cars on display for photos. * Tours of Rigby Road Depot are taking place every Wednesday until 15th December and and dates have now been announced for every Monday and Saturday in January and February in 2022 (except for 3rd January) - further dates will follow. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children aged 3-15. For details of the tours and to book your place visit https://blackpoolheritage.com/guided-depot-tours/. All proceeds from the tours go towards the fund for repairing the depot. |
