Gallery 950: Picture in Time Special - Blackpool Tramway 2009

We continue looking back in this collection and this time we are heading to the Blackpool Tramway in 2009. Taken on various dates through the year this gallery concentrates on the section of tramway between Pleasure Beach and Starr Gate - New South Promenade. 2009 was the last year of traditional tram operation along this stretch of line with it being closed during the September in preaparation for the upgrading of the tramway, including the construction of Starr Gate Depot. Whilst most of these images feature service trams on the final weekend of operation we also see some of the more unusual visitors during the year - such as the Western Train on a enthusiasts' tour, those which featured at Totally Transport and Standard 147 which also ran an enthusiasts' tour on the very last day. As well as those unusual trams we see many long forgotten trams and liveries on what was a historic year for the tramway. Photographer: Andrew Waddington
Photographs were taken between Saturday 16th May and Sunday 6th September 2009.
