Gallery 934: Crich Tramway Village Shunt - 3rd April 2021

On Saturday 3rd April, in preparation for not only the reopening of the outside areas of the museum but also as part of a reorganisation of the tram displays in the depots and Great Exhibition Hall, the workshop team at the Crich Tramway Village undertook a shunt which allowed some rare views of some of the trams outside. In this collection we see some of those trams as they are moved around on the Traverser and elsewhere on the depot fan. With Blackpool 298, and its new underframe, due to arrive at Crich later this year plus three trams reaching the end of their overhauls/restorations (London County Council 1, Newcastle 102 and London Transport 1622) a reorganisation of where trams are kept is necessary which will see two of the trams featured in these photos leave for pastures new - Derby 1 will head back to the Clay Cross store (where it was located from the early 1970s to 1991) while Cardiff 21's loan will end and it will head back to Wales. At the same time the Barnsley & District bus 5 has been relocated to the Great Exhibition Hall and both Gateshead 5 and Southampton 45 will also be more easily viewed by visitors to the museum. Photographers: Andy Bailey & Peter Whiteley
All Photographs were taken on Saturday 3rd April 2021.
