Gallery 893: Seaton Tramway 50th Anniversary August 2020

28th August 2020 was the 50th Anniversary of the Seaton Tramway and although global events meant celebrations to mark this occasion were rather different to that already planned the tramway was not to be put off as they still managed to run the majority of their fleet in passenger service during the day. It has been 28th August 1970 that 8 had run the first passenger service (under battery power) between Riverside and Bobsworth Bridge and 50 years later that tram was again in service and even managed to replicate this service by running the timetabled service at 1430 from Seaton. Other highlights on the day included the relatively rare use of small capacity 4 (a replica Blackpool Boat Car) including one journey which was broadcast live on the Seaton Tramway Facebook page. It had been hoped that 13 trams may run on the day but in the event 12 and 19 were undergoing maintenance and 2 was also unable to run so in the end nine trams would operate at some point during the day. This collection mainly features images from anniversary day itself but we also see some of the trams in service on Saturday 30th August 2020 too when 2 did run giving ten different trams running over the course of these two days. While it was not the event that was hoped for at the start of the year there is a promise that 2021 will instead see the full celebrations for this major anniversary.
