Gallery 860: Around the World in Trams - Midwest Electric Railway, Iowa

Next up is Southern Iowa Railway 9, built in 1912. Originally constructed as a four wheel car for the Alba Light and Railway Company it was rebuilt with double trucks in 1917. By this time it was in the ownership of Southern Iowa Utilities (having also gone through the Centerville, Albia and Southern Railway). Ownership finally transferred to the Southern Iowa Railway in 1941 and it remained there until withdrawn from service. The Iowa Railway Historical Society preserved the car from 1967 to 1968 at which point it moved to the Midwest Electric Railway. It has spent the past three years out of service.
