Gallery 859: Manchester Metrolink Trafford Park line opens - March 2020

Sunday 22nd March 2020 saw the opening of the latest - and for now last - extension of Manchester Metrolink - with the 5.5km line to the intu Trafford Centre carrying its first passenger. At the time the UK was under restrictions to try and combat the spread of the Coronavirus and up until a couple of days beforehand there were discussions as to whether the line would open as planned in the event it did to give extra connectivity to those making essential journeys around the region. This collection actually starts the day before opening on Saturday 21st March with views of trams running the shadow service and also driver training before we see 3073 - with a newly applied advert for the intu Trafford Centre itself - arrive with the very first public service on the line. We then continue with images of the first day of service.

Please note photographers featured in this gallery took note of full government social distancing advice, ensuring they were not within two metres of others at any time. As can be seen from these photos there were very few other people around with images coptured at quiet times. We remind everyone to take heed of government advice on social distancing and to only make essential journeys at this time.
