Gallery 794: West Midlands Metro - The Battery Trams

Over the past couple of years the Urbos 3 trams operating on the West Midlands Metro between Birmingham and Wolverhampton have been receiving batteries to enable them to run on sections of the network which will not have overhead installed. The first of the trams to receive batteries was 18, which was sent away to Spain for eight months for the work to take place, and since then (and at the time of writing) a further seven have seen the batteries installed at Wednesbury Depot. These have been (in order): 31, 36, 21, 28, 35, 37 and 17. With West Midlands Metro also starting to allow adverts on the trams they have also operated in a variety of liveries with four different styles seen so far. In this collection we feature all eight of the battery operated trams in action around the West Midlands Metro network over the past few months, including images of all the different liveries and also seeing some of the trams in more than one livery style.
