The Manx Electric Railway celebrated its 125th anniversary in style during the first week of September with events galore to mark the occasion. In this first part of our photographic look at the events covering the first four days (Monday 1st to Tuesday 4th September) we look at some of the highlights. We actually start off a few days before the main event started with a few images taken of not only the MER but also the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway, this includes views of Ratchet Car 14 on another test run ahead of its launch a few days later. We then move on to the first weekend which the prevailing theme of these two days unfortunately being rain and as such there were changes to the events programme on Saturday 1st but not before 1 and 2 conducted a parallel run. On Sunday 2nd we see the three 1s at Laxey Station as well as looking around Laxey Car Sheds. The sun put in an appearance from Monday 3rd and on this day 14 was launched into service and there was a unique opportunity to see 6 run with two wagons and a second parallel run using 1 and 2 followed in the evening. The final day covered in this collection was Tuesday 4th with the big highlight of this day being the Crossbench Photographic evening giving some stunning shots of the four Crossbench cars - 14, 16, 32 and 33 - high above the Irish Sea. There was also 33 running with two trailers in the form of 51 and 60 and a Mail Tram re-enactment. More on all these events can be found on our News & Features page: Days 1 and 2, Days 3 and 4. The rest of the event week will follow in a future update with a day per gallery for the reaminder of the week!
