Gallery 747: Tyne and Wear Metro Southern routes - June 2018

View from 4012 calling at St Peter's station, just north of Sunderland, looking towards the former Monkwearmouth station, built in a grandiose style in 1848 and closed to passengers in 1967. It became a museum in 1973 but sadly this closed as recently as 2017 and the building is now disused. It was not reopened for Metro services when these trains first ran to Sunderland in 2002, sharing the National Rail tracks from Pelaw, instead the new station at St. Peter's, served exclusively by Metro trains and built just to the south, was favoured instead.
