Around the World in Trams - Budapest June 2024 |
These photos are part of an "Around the World in Trams" special as we feature a selection of images taken of the tramway in Budapest during a couple of days in June 2024. Although the primary reaason for this visit was for a class 47 hauled railtour there was still time to see the trams in service on the extensive network.
The standard gauge tramway has 174km of track with 630 stops and has been operating in the Hungarian capital city since 1866. There are five main variants of tram in service, this includes the Ganz CSMG-2 trams from the early 1970s, Duewag TW-6000s built from the mid-1970s and also three variants of the ubiquitous Tatra T5CD cars. There are two types of more modern LRV in service as well, the Siemens Combino Supra dating from 2006 and five and nine section variants of the CAF Urbos3. |
