Tyne & Wear Metro - September 2025

This collection takes a trip to the Tyne and Wear Metro with photos taken over several days in September 2025.

The operating fleet of the Tyne and Wear Metro is currently going through a major change with the original Metrocars starting to be withdrawn (and sent for scrapping) and their replacements, built in Switzerland by Stadler, entering service. Things are changing at such a pace that even though we publish these images only about a month after they were taken there have been several changes since as units are withdrawn, stored and then sent for scrapping.

Both old and new trains are featured in these photos, and we also take a trip to the Stephenson Steam Railway where the first of the Metrocars to be preserved - 4001 - is now making itself at home.

Photographs were taken on Tuesday 16th & Thursday 18th September 2025.
