Seaton Tramway 55th Anniversary - 23rd August 2025 |
2025 marks the 55th anniversary of the first passenger tram services on the Seaton Tramway in Devon. It was 28th August of that year that 8 ran the first service as it operated between Riverside and Bobsworth Bridge. At that time it was all on battery power but overhead wires soon came and over the past 55 years the tramway has developed into the major tourist attraction it has become with its scenic three-mile journey from Seaton to Colyton.
To help celebrate this milestone birthday, the tramway held a special gala weekend on 23rd and 24th August which saw all of the 12 operational passenger trams operate on at least one of the days. This collection features photos taken on the first day of the event - 23rd August - and as well as seeing trams out on the line we also take a look behind the scenes at Riverside Depot. * A video from Steven Hughes is also available to be viewed on YouTube. |
