Seaton Tramway - June & July 2024

The unique Seaton Tramway in Devon runs on a 2'9" gauge line for around 3 miles between Seaton and Colyton using, for a large part, the former Seaton Junction to Seaton railway line which closed as part of the Beeching cuts in the 1960s. Having moved its operation along the south coast from Eastbourne trams having been running at Seaton since 1970 and some of the trams which were part of the fleet back then remain in service to this day.

In this collection we spend four days at the end of June and start of July on the tramway when the Blue timetable was in operation. This sees trams leaving both ends of the line every 20 minites between 1000 and 1700 and normally uses five trams to maintain the frequency. With fine weather over this period open top double deckers are seen running the service with six trams in total used: 2, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 12. The one other open topper which is part of the operational fleet which wasn't seen is 8. As well as those trams in service we also see a couple of enclosed saloons (16 and 19) which were stabled at Seaton Station.
