Picture in Time: Crich Tramway Village - May 2009

For the first time we this year we head back into the archives for a set of photos taken in May 2009 at the Crich Tramway Village when a series of events took place to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the arrival of the first tram on the site that would become the home of the National Tramway Museum. The tram in question, Cardiff 131, was restored to operational condition just in time to be launched as part of the events, with other highlights including a 20-strong cavalcade of trams, and a line-up of trams from capital cities of the British Isles, including visiting Cardiff horse car 21 which was borrowed for the occasion, but ended up staying at Crich for 12 years! Some of the highlights from the anniversary celebrations are shown in this special photo gallery, including events from both Wednesday 20th May - the official day for dignitaries - and Sunday 24th May - a TMS members and enthusiasts day. Photographers: Andrew & Tony Waddington
Photographs were taken on Wednesday 20th and Sunday 24th May 2009.
