In this gallery of images we head to the Blackpool Tramway to take a look at the heritage trams in operation in late September 2022. With the trip timed to coincide with the annual Anniversary Weekend, we start off a few days earlier with views of the nightly Illumination Tours before on Friday 23rd September we see Balloon 715 in operation on the afternoon "Coastal Tour" to Fleetwood and back.
The main weekend's events get underway on Saturday 24th September with a hop-on, hop-off timetable of heritage trams working various journeys across the complete length of the tramway. We see all of the operating heritage trams in this collection which includes some surprises in the form of the Trawler and Frigate coming out as replacements. Both days of the weekend also end with three trams at Fleetwood allowing for some unique photo opportunities on the Esplanade. With the weekend scheduled to see the last public runs of Balloon 715 before withdrawal the Fylde Transport Trust owned tram features extensively throughout this gallery and indeed it ends things with the last journey of the weekend on Sunday 25th September. A further gallery from this period in Blackpool will follow later this year concentrating on the Flexity2 trams operating the core service. But the modern Bombardier built trams aren't completely missed off this gallery though as we see several images of them alongside the heritage trams. * A more detailed review of what happened over the weekend is available in this article. |
