As a result in this shift of power all hopes of extending the \u201chalf a line\u201d currently being constructed for eventual \u2013 and long awaited \u2013 opening in 2014 have been put on the backburner with the new Council leader, Cllr Andrew Burns from Labour, saying any further lines will not be looked at until 2017 at the earliest.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Speaking in the <em>Edinburgh Evening News<\/em>, Cllr Burns said: \u201cOur focus is on finishing the tram project according to the plans agreed by the council last year. We are not closing our eyes to further development of the tram, but there will not be any further line extensions this side of 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the coalition have confirmed that they are willing to wait until the tram line is operational before an inquiry into the whole project takes place.
