The first stage of work \u2013 which will see a pier constructed on Station Street to support the bridge \u2013 started on Tuesday 10<sup>th <\/sup>April.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It is planned that three interconnecting bridges will be built over Station Street, Nottingham railway station and Queens Road respectively so that trams will able to travel between the current terminus Station Street over the railway station and down onto Crocus Street in The Meadows.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the start of this work, Cllr Jane Urquhart, Portfolio Holder for Planning<br \/>\nand Transportation on the City Council, said: \u201cIt&#8217;s hugely exciting that just a few months after signing the contracts to extend the tram system, the contractor is already embarking on such a significant piece of work. This work is also a timely reminder of why the City has taken the bold step of being the first city in the UK to introduce the Workplace Parking Levy, which is helping to fund both the extensions to the NET system and the redevelopment of Nottingham Station, to transform the station into a modern transport interchange befitting of a city of Nottingham&#8217;s size and stature. NET Phase Two is already generating jobs and construction work opportunities for local companies, and will help to stimulate the local economy to generate long term employment growth, inward investment and regeneration which we know building new tram lines brings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To enable this work to take place safely part of Station Street \u2013 between Trent Street and Carrington Street \u2013 will become one way heading westbound.
