{"id":64802,"date":"2026-10-02T18:00:22","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T17:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=64802"},"modified":"2026-10-02T16:20:45","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T15:20:45","slug":"picture-in-time-manchester-765-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=64802","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Manchester 765"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have another photo from the early days of the Heaton Park Tramway as we take another look at <strong>Manchester 765<\/strong> in operation.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the park end of the line that we see in this photo again as we look down from the grass bank towards what was the extent of the line in 1980. In the background is the one-time tramway shelter, converted into the MTMS\u2019 first tram depot and museum. When used as a shelter for the original Corporation Tramways system it was open sided and was said to be capable of accommodating up to two thousand passengers.<\/p>\n<p>The size of the shelter and its ability to hold trams made it ideal for conversion and its existence and availability were major contributory factors in the success of the tramway in its early days. Infilling the side walls and laying a new siding into the building were major undertakings for the MTMS and some recent reroofing has clearly also taken place. Trams enter the depot by the door on the extreme right, just to the left of the green traction pole.
