{"id":64572,"date":"2026-09-11T22:00:42","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T21:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=64572"},"modified":"2026-09-10T20:00:56","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T19:00:56","slug":"in-pictures-tram-trains-continue-to-enter-service-in-south-wales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=64572","title":{"rendered":"In Pictures: Tram-Trains continue to enter service in South Wales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Transport for Wales are continuing their slow but steady process of putting the new class 398 tram-trains into service with a total of 11 of the 36 strong class having now been used in passenger service.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Since we last updated things on these units <strong>398 018<\/strong>, <strong>398 021<\/strong>, <strong>398 023<\/strong> and <strong>398 025<\/strong> have all been used on at least one occasion. They have joined <strong>398 017<\/strong>, <strong>398 022<\/strong>, <strong>398 024<\/strong>, <strong>398 028<\/strong>, <strong>398 029<\/strong>, <strong>398 030<\/strong> and <strong>398 031<\/strong> as the on the fully commissioned list.<\/p>\n<p>Other units are also continuing to be used on test runs whilst there are three units which don\u2019t seem to have been delivered to the purpose built depot at Taff\u2019s Well \u2013 <strong>398 032<\/strong>, <strong>398 035<\/strong> and <strong>398 036<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The tram-trains have been built by Stadler in Valencia, Spain and whilst they are currently being used in service as conventional trains. The tram part for which they have been partly ordered is the first stage of the Cardiff Metro route which will run between Cardiff Bay and Cardiff Central on an as yet to be constructed street tramway.
