{"id":64371,"date":"2026-08-26T22:00:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T21:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=64371"},"modified":"2026-08-26T19:44:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T18:44:32","slug":"tyne-and-wear-metro-scrappings-restart","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=64371","title":{"rendered":"Tyne and Wear Metro scrappings restart"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There must be a renewed confidence at Nexus that the new Stadler trains have settled into service on the Tyne and Wear Metro as the past few days have seen three of the last Metrocars head off for scrap \u2013 which leaves just five, although that will soon be four!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It has now been two months since the last official use of a Metrocar in service (when they ran\u00a0 farewell week of special services) and a month since the last recorded use of a Metrocar (26<sup>th<\/sup> July seems to be the last time any of the trains carried passengers) and so the week starting 24<sup>th<\/sup> August has seen the scrap moves resume.<\/p>\n<p>The three trains to have left the Metro for the last time are <strong>4068<\/strong> on Monday 24<sup>th<\/sup> August, <strong>4078<\/strong> on Tuesday 25<sup>th<\/sup> August and <strong>4079<\/strong> on Wednesday 26<sup>th<\/sup> August.<\/p>\n<p>As has been the case since the scrap moves first started the unit leaving has been hauled into between two of its sisters from Gosforth Depot to Howdon. From there it is collected by lorry and taken to be scrapped at J Denham Metals, Bishop Auckland.<\/p>\n<p>The removal of these three leaves the following on the network: <strong>4024<\/strong>, <strong>4029<\/strong>, <strong>4041<\/strong>, <strong>4050<\/strong> and <strong>4081<\/strong>.
