When you consider the relatively small-scale operation at their home in Carlton Colville its impressive how many different projects they have on the go at the moment – and recently they have provided updates on two of these on their social media accounts.

One of their biggest projects at the moment is the restoration of Glasgow 488 – a tram which has never run in preservation and spent many years in Paris – and following the joining of the two decks of the tram at the end of 2025 they have been continuing work in the new tram depot.

The top-deck fit out is nearly completed with seat frames fitted and lighting circuit wiring having been installed. Externally the beading and panelling has been completed with the next stage to be a full repaint for the tram. It will also include adverts – yet to be decided upon – when it is completed.

The project will now continue with one of the next big jobs set to include the expensive task of reupholstering the seats. This will have to be contracted out and is just one of the several jobs which will add to the final cost of restoring the tram back to operational condition.

You can help achieve the aims of 488’s restoration by donating at https://www.eatm.co.uk/donate/lets-get-488-back-on-track/

Another tram which is enjoying some attention in the new depot is Blackpool Standard 159. This tram has been one of the mainstays of the operating fleet at the East Anglia Transport Museum but is taking a well earnt rest in 2026 and during that time off its being treated to a repaint.

159 will reach its centenary in 2027 and if that isn’t a excuse for a new coat of paint then we don’t know what is!
