This time as well as the usual track replacement it will also allow for the multi-million pound regeneration of Regent Centre interchange to make significant progress.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>During the nine-day closure work will take place as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Regent Centre interchange modernisation including the removal of an old large metal canopy that covers the bus station roadway and Metro lines<\/li>\n<li>Track renewal<\/li>\n<li>Station upgrades at Callerton Parkway, Bank Foot, Kingston Park, Fawdon and Wansbeck Road<\/li>\n<li>Cable repair work<\/li>\n<li>Lineside estate management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Paul Welford, Major Projects Director at Nexus, said: \u201cWe are carrying out a major programme of renewal work right along Metro\u2019s Green line between South Gosforth and Airport from this Saturday for nine consecutive days. I would like to\u00a0apologise\u00a0in advance for the disruption the works may cause to our customers and to our lineside neighbours.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe range of\u00a0work\u00a0we are carrying out\u00a0is\u00a0vital\u00a0for Metro\u2019s\u00a0long-term\u00a0future. In many cases there will be large numbers of workers on track and heavy\u00a0machinery\u00a0and rail\u00a0maintenance vehicles will be in use.\u00a0We\u2019ll\u00a0be working\u00a024\/7 to get the work completed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no\u202fgood time\u202fto close a line,\u202fand we do so to minimise disruption to as many customers\u202fas possible.\u202fOur plans consider school holidays,\u202fto ensure the\u202fleast\u202fpossible\u202fdisruption to customers and the most efficient works. By scheduling these works during the schools\u2019 summer break, we can avoid\u202fimpacting\u202fbusier commutes, and less\u202fcongestion on the roads should\u202fspeed up alternative\u202ftravel\u202ftimes on replacement buses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCustomers are advised to plan ahead and allow plenty of extra time to make their journeys through the affected area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A replacement bus service will operate between South Gosforth and the Airport throughout.<\/p>\n<p>Normal services are scheduled to resume on Monday 24<sup>th<\/sup> August 2026.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There will be no services on the Tyne and Wear Metro from South Gosforth to the Airport for nine days between 15th and 23rd August as more major modernisation work takes place.
