Alice, 53 from Great Park in Newcastle, completed the 65 mile challenge in less than 24 hours from Saturday 8<sup>th<\/sup> August, all to raise money for Women\u2019s Street Watch.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Alice crossed the finishing line in 21 hours 55 minutes and managed to raise over \u00a36,000 for the charity who are a grassroots network of volunteers who work on the streets of Newcastle at night to keep women safe.<\/p>\n<p>Alice said: \u201cI\u2019m really proud and emotional to have completed this run. I\u2019m absolutely shattered. It was really hard. One of the hardest things I\u2019ve ever done. I\u2019ve done long distances before, but this was harder. The first day it was really hot, and I went through some tough moments early on Sunday morning, but I managed to get through it with the help of my amazing support team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an incredible feeling to cross that finish line with my friends and family there. I\u2019m particularly proud to be the first women to run the Metro marathon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been running in support of Women\u2019s Street Watch. I want to highlight women\u2019s safety, because ordinarily we can\u2019t do runs like this late at night on our own. I also wanted to show that women of my age, in their 50s, should not be written off. We can do tough things, we just have to be brave enough to try.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lynne Dickinson, Station Delivery Manager at Nexus, said: \u201cOur congratulations go to Alice for completing this epic challenge. It\u2019s an incredible feat of endurance to track both Metro lines in a single day. We were delighted to welcome her at the finish line in Newcastle.\u00a0 She is supporting a really worthwhile cause.
