Car 2<\/strong> is seen here at the Canal Road West stop on Hennessy Road, the only stop between the points where the Happy Valley loop leaves the main line and returns to it. The road is named after the eighth Governor of Hong Kong, John Pope Hennessy, in post from 1877 to 1882. Despite the return of Hong Kong to Chinese administration in 1997, many old colonial names remain in place, perhaps one of the more straightforward aspects of implementing the PRC\u2019s “One country, two systems” policy. The stop canopy has a slightly Art Deco appearance but probably provides little real shelter during Hong Kong\u2019s torrential downpours. As can be seen from the flag, stops are numbered, the E suffix here indicating that cars are eastbound, towards Shaukeiwan or an intermediate terminus. Eastbound stops use odd numbers, starting at Kennedy Town while westbound stops (W suffix) use even numbers, starting at Shaukeiwan. The same stop will therefore have a different number depending on the direction of travel. Car 8<\/strong> has just passed in the opposite direction, while a double-decker of the Kowloon Motor Bus Company is running parallel to the tram. Clearly someone has been aware of the risks inherent in putting a QR code on the front of a potentially moving vehicle. The small print reads, \u2018For your safety, please scan the QR code only when it is safe\u2019 \u2013 though the print is probably too small to prevent any potential accident.
