{"id":63856,"date":"2026-07-24T18:00:55","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T17:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=63856"},"modified":"2026-07-19T09:05:51","modified_gmt":"2026-07-19T08:05:51","slug":"picture-in-time-croydon-tramlink-2544","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=63856","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Croydon Tramlink 2544"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this outing for \u201cPicture in Time\u201d we feature a photo from Croydon Tramlink with a tram still carrying the original red and white fleet livery.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The tram in this photo is <strong>2544<\/strong>, another of the CR4000 trams built by Bombardier in Austria for the opening of the Croydon Tramlink system. <strong>2544<\/strong> was transported from mainland Europe to the purpose built depot at Therapia Lane (on the Wimbledon line), arriving on 8<sup>th<\/sup> March 1999. At this stage deliveries were coming once a week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2544<\/strong> is at Avenue Road here with it operating a service to West Croydon. At this time services from Beckenham Junction were only going into central Croydon, rather than the current route which goes through to Wimbledon.
