King Charles III, who also holds the title Lord of Mann, visited the Isle of Man on 14<sup>th<\/sup> July 2026 and as part of his visit he helped the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway celebrate their important milestone.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Unveiling a plaque at Strathallan, the King met many members of the team who allow the horse tramway to continue operation before he got on board double decker 18 for a very short trip. Hauled by Bobby \u2013 in all his royal finery \u2013 His Majesty rode as far as Summerhill Stables.<\/p>\n<p>As well as visiting the horse tramway, King Charles III addressed Tynwald and met other people from the Isle of Man who play a vital role in various sectors.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Longworth, former Managing Director of Isle of Man Transport, Vice Chair of the UKTram Heritage Committee and resident of the Isle of Man, said: \u201cIt was fantastic to have the Lord of Mann visit and recognise the significance of this 150<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary year. The islands trams, trains and other heritage attractions depend on tourism for their survival and such occasions help to keep them in the forefront of destinations to visit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Douglas Bay Horse Tramway\u2019s celebrations will continue during the forthcoming Manx Heritage Transport Festival (28<sup>th<\/sup> July to 2<sup>nd<\/sup> August) as well as a special day dedicated to the 150<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary on Friday 7<sup>th<\/sup> August 2026.<\/p>\n<p>2026 will also be a key year for the future of the tramway with Tynwald due to vote later this month on whether to release funding to re-extend the line to the Sea Terminal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you can\u2019t get a visit from the King in your 150th anniversary year when can you?
