As previously revealed by Nexus the week of 22nd June until 26th June will see the Metrocars allocated to service and now they have given details of the planned timetable.

When first announced it was said that they would be running on the Green and Yellow lines from the morning until early evening and the timetable has confirmed that neither planned diagram will be all day use. Looking at the times it could be that the same units are used on both lines during the day as there is no cross-over.

The following services are planned to be operated by the Metrocars:

0933 South Gosforth to South Hylton 1028

1055 South Hylton to Airport 1206

1217 Airport to Regent Centre 1229

1342 South Gosforth to St James 1432

1443 St James to South Shields 1610

1623 South Shields to South Gosforth 1701

1704 Regent Centre to Airport 1718

1722 Airport to Regent Centre 1735

Updates will be posted by the Tyne and Wear Metro on their X feed @My_Metro.

Cathy Massarella, Managing Director of Nexus, said: “Next week will be really significant for the Tyne and Wear Metro as we get ready to say farewell to our old trains.

“The last few trains will be in service week commencing 22 June until 5.30pm on the Friday 26 June. Customers may still see the occasional 599 around the Metro system after this date, but this is their last guaranteed chance to travel on one. The bulk of our services are now provided by the new Stadler trains.

“This is the end of an era for Metro and many customers will be sad to see them go. The old fleet has given us 46 years of service, but it’s now time to look to the future and our new train fleet.

“This week is also the last chance for customers to get the front seat view on the Metro. We know that people are going to miss this treasured aspect of travelling on the old fleet. That driver’s eye view of the line has been popular with people of all ages.”

The full planned timetable is available on the Nexus website at Green line and Yellow line.

The time is nearly upon us when the Tyne and Wear Metro Metrocars will run their guaranteed final journeys.
