It only ran a short-distance within the confines of the depot and yard but is a milestone in the tram returning to service.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It was 2016 that the tram last ran in service, and at that point it was running under the identity of <strong>Grimsby &amp; Immingham 26<\/strong> (it being sold for further use there after Gateshead closed their tram system). In recent years it has been undergoing an extensive overhaul which has seen major work undertaken on the tram, including a stunning repaint.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10<\/strong> has been moved from its long-time resting place at the back of track 2 onto track 3 where it has been placed over the pit to allow more work to take place.<\/p>\n<p>No date for its return to service has been set with more work still needed as part of a snagging list. But it is hoped that it will be in a position to be tested on the tramway this year with Paul Jarman, the head of all things transport at Beamish, saying on the Transport and Industry blog: \u201cI would love to see the tram enter service this summer, however, as its capacity has been much-missed, and looks stunning in its restored (1930s) guise.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The lengthy overhaul of Gateshead 10 at Beamish seems to be approaching its final stages with news that it is has run under its own power for the first time in 10 years.
