The weekend of 6th<\/sup> and 7th<\/sup> June 2026 saw a special event held at Queens Road Depot in Manchester to help celebrate its 125th<\/sup> anniversary. Whilst trams left for the last time in 1938, the structure has remained in transport use throughout and is still in every day use in 2026. Photos from Trevor Hall of the special event.<\/p>\n

We featured the depot back in April 2020 as part of our Still Standing series<\/a>, but that only included exterior images. Now with the open day taking place we are able to see inside the building which had a number of buses on display during the weekend.<\/p>\n

Queens Road was Manchester Corporation Tramway\u2019s first electric tram depot with the foundation stone being laid on 12th<\/sup> June 1901 by Cllr Dan Boyle. It covered four acres and was designed to hold 252 trams, with 14 bays capable of storing 18 trams per bay. It was extended over the years and started to house buses from 1925. The last trams departed in 1938 and it was converted to sole bus use. The Greater Manchester Museum of Transport is housed in the area which used to include the tramways tower wagon garages.<\/p>\n
