{"id":62966,"date":"2026-05-10T14:00:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-10T13:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=62966"},"modified":"2026-05-10T08:33:17","modified_gmt":"2026-05-10T07:33:17","slug":"dft-confirm-funding-for-light-rail-organisations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=62966","title":{"rendered":"DfT confirm funding for light rail organisations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board (LRSSB) and UKTram have welcomed the Department for Transport\u2019s (DfT) renewed commitment to the sector with \u00a34.5 million worth of funding confirmed.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The \u00a34.5 million will be shared between the two organisations over the next three years which will allow them both to continue their vital work.<\/p>\n<p>Carl Williams, LRSSB Chief Executive, said: \u201cThis continuation of funding from the DfT represents a huge vote of confidence in the work we\u2019ve already done to enhance tramway safety standards. This includes the development of a sector-wide incident reporting system and advanced modelling as part of a wider risk management and mitigation framework.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMoving forward, it will enable us to continue publishing new and updated safety guidance on all aspects of tramway design and operations, while delivering on a host of other innovative projects that embrace the latest technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>James Hammett, UKTram Managing Director, added: \u201cWe are extremely grateful for this support from the DfT, and for its recognition of the light rail\u2019s importance as a sustainable mode of urban transport, both now and in the future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis funding provides greater certainty as we continue to support members and the wider sector.
