{"id":62767,"date":"2026-04-23T22:00:40","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T21:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=62767"},"modified":"2026-04-23T18:53:05","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T17:53:05","slug":"bury-tram-top-deck-moves-to-heaton-park-tramway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=62767","title":{"rendered":"Bury tram top-deck moves to Heaton Park Tramway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Heaton Park Tramway are now custodians of yet another part of Greater Manchester tramway history with the arrival of the top-deck of <strong>Bury Corporation Tramways 7<\/strong>. This is the only surviving part of a Bury tram and has most recently been on display at the Bury Transport Museum.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The top deck was moved to Heaton Park\u2019s Lakeside tram depot where it was immediately put alongside <strong>Manchester 765<\/strong>, showcasing two trams from the region. It joins several other trams from Greater Manchester as well with fully restored <strong>Stockport 5<\/strong>, under restoration <strong>Manchester 173<\/strong> and stored parts of <strong>Rawtenstall 23<\/strong> and <strong>Oldham 43<\/strong> already in situ at Heaton Park.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7<\/strong> was built in 1903 as one of the original batch of trams for the start of electric tram services in Bury. Originally open top the top deck cover came in the mid-1920s and it would remain in place until the tram was withdrawn in 1948\/1949.<\/p>\n<p>It is now owned by the Greater Manchester Transport Society who have entrusted the tram to the Manchester Transport Museum Society at Heaton Park. It will remain stored at Lakeside until a decision is made on the most suitable way it can be displayed to the public.<\/p>\n<p>The hard-working volunteers at the tramway are currently concentrating their efforts on preparing the line for reopening.
