{"id":62621,"date":"2026-04-17T20:00:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T19:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=62621"},"modified":"2026-04-17T19:31:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T18:31:09","slug":"douglas-bay-horse-tramway-18-breaks-cover","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=62621","title":{"rendered":"Douglas Bay Horse Tramway 18 breaks cover"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Douglas Bay Horse Tramway 18<\/strong> \u2013 the only operational double-deck tram in the fleet \u2013 has returned to the Promenade for the first time since 2024 after enjoying an extensive overhaul at Strathallan Depot.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Whilst there remain a few jobs to be completed before the tram is fully available for service again, the tram was sufficiently completed in time to undertake a special run to the CAMRA beer festival at the Villa Marina on 8<sup>th<\/sup> April 2026. Torrin provided the horse power.<\/p>\n<p>Last time <strong>18<\/strong> was seen out on the line it was carrying a maroon and cream livery but as part of this latest overhaul the tram is now in a more traditional red and white livery (very similar to that seen on the other double-decker, <strong>14<\/strong>, at the Manx Museum in Douglas). It features large black numbers on the ends and now carries advertising for Bushy\u2019s Fine Ales, Lagers &amp; Spirits.<\/p>\n<p>Work on completing the overhaul will now continue with the tram expected to be back in full service later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, 2026 sees the 150<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway. There will be extensive events during the Manx Heritage Transport Festival from 28<sup>th<\/sup> July until 2<sup>nd<\/sup> August.
