This is just phase one of the enlarging of the network in 2026, with the second part set to be the start of services to Millennium Point on the Birmingham Eastside extension. That shouldn’t be too many weeks away either with driver training now underway, leading to a temporary timetable being introduced from Monday 16th March.

Wolverhampton St George’s welcomed trams back on Monday 9th March (even though journey planners had initially claimed that was the case the previous week, subsequently updated later in that week). Further work had to take place before trams could return but this was completed to allow the timetable to resume.

Trams will serve Wolverhampton St George’s every 15 minutes between 0700 and 1900, Monday to Saturday with no service before or after this time, or on Sundays.

The timetable in place for this week only is:

Monday to Saturday

Start of service to 0700: Trams every 15 minutes Wolverhampton Station to Edgbaston Village

0700 to 1900: Trams every 15 minutes from Wolverhampton Station and Wolverhampton St George’s to Edgbaston Village. The line has now been formally handed over to West Midlands Metro following the conclusion of the extended period of testing on the line (it had been planned to open it in December 2025 but signalling issues meant it couldn’t be handed over to the operational team).

Friday 6th March 2026 saw the start of training with the driver trainers familiarising themselves with the short line again with 36 in use running Bull Street-Millennium Point-Library-Millennium Point.

Then Monday 9th March saw full driver training get underway with three drivers were put their paces on the extension in the morning with a further three then trained during the afternoon. 24 was the tram used on this day.

It has now been confirmed that driver training will increase further from Monday 16th March which will also see a change to the timetable.

This will see:

Trams from Wolverhampton Station will run as normal and serve all stops

Trams from Wolverhampton St George’s will terminate at Bull Street.
