{"id":62057,"date":"2026-03-05T22:00:28","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T22:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=62057"},"modified":"2026-03-05T18:47:37","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T18:47:37","slug":"in-pictures-work-finally-underway-at-birmingham-snow-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=62057","title":{"rendered":"In Pictures: Work finally underway at Birmingham Snow Hill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Its been over ten years since the last tram served it and in the intervening decade it has just stood there as a reminder of where the then Midland Metro used to terminate, but finally work is now underway on dismantling Birmingham Snow Hill.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The original Birmingham terminus of the line from Wolverhampton St George\u2019s was in use between 31<sup>st<\/sup> May 1999 and 24<sup>th<\/sup> October 2015 but with the network being extended further into the city centre (on to Bull Street, Grand Central, Library and eventually Edgbaston Village) it was deemed surplus to requirements with the line bypassing it on its way to St Chad\u2019s and Bull Street.<\/p>\n<p>The terminus (which featured an island platform) was within the confines of Birmingham Snow Hill Railway Station and a long-held ambition has been that where its located would see a conversion to railway line again to give an additional track through the station.<\/p>\n<p>It now appears that this may be in the pipeline with work noted as having got underway to remove the old tram platform.
