The February school half-term holidays will see a change to services on the West Midlands Metro network as work takes place to connect the Black Country Line to the Birmingham to Wolverhampton line \u2013 an important (and rather vital!) step towards the start of services to Dudley later this year.<\/p>\n

The work to fully install track at Tipton Junction will mean that no trams will be running between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Edgbaston Village from approximately 2100 on Monday 16th<\/sup> February until the end of service on Wednesday 18th<\/sup> February.<\/p>\n During this period trams will run at standard frequencies between Wolverhampton Station and Wednesbury Great Western Street with Metro tickets valid for use on local National Express West Midlands bus services, 79 between Wednesbury and West Bromwich, 74 between West Bromwich and Birmingham City Centre, and all services from Colmore Row to Edgbaston Village. An enhanced service will be in place on the 79. Season ticket holders can also use West Midlands Railway services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham.<\/p>\n You\u2019ll notice that trams will only be running from Wolverhampton Station and not Wolverhampton St George\u2019s. This will be the case from Saturday 7th<\/sup> February as further infrastructure upgrade works will be taking place there. From that date all trams will be running to and from Wolverhampton Station. There is no date given for the resumption of services to St George;s.<\/p>\n Ed Williams, Metro\u2019s Head of Engineering, said: \u201cConnecting the new extension to the existing line is a significant milestone in preparing the route for opening later this year. The timing of the tie\u2011in has been planned to coincide with the school break to minimise disruption for customers and we\u2019re doing all we can to keep customers moving while the work is taking place.<\/p>\n \u201cNational Express buses in the area will be accepting Metro tickets and passes for the duration of the works, and the bus operator is also running an enhanced timetable to provide connections with early and late trams between Wednesbury and Wolverhampton.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWhile all these works are taking place, we\u2019re taking the opportunity to carry out other essential maintenance and renewal work across the network to further avoid future disruption for customers.<\/p>\n \u201cDecisions to temporarily reduce or suspend services are never taken lightly and are only made when absolutely necessary.
