The latest two to go are <strong>4008<\/strong> and <strong>4045<\/strong> \u2013 both of which were still able to move under their own power!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>So far with the scrap moves we have seen the unit which is set to go off to be scrapped towed in between two of its still operational sisters between Gosforth and Howdon but this time it was a bit different.<\/p>\n<p>Both units were still able to run under their own power \u2013 indeed <strong>4008<\/strong> was still in service just a few days earlier \u2013 and so they went as a coupled pair, in effect driving themselves to be scrapped!<\/p>\n<p>The move across to Howdon took place on Wednesday 21<sup>st<\/sup> January and then <strong>4008<\/strong> was collected by lorry on Thursday 22<sup>nd<\/sup> January followed by <strong>4045<\/strong> on Friday 23<sup>rd<\/sup> January.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4008<\/strong> had been the lowest numbered remaining Metrocar on the network but this honour now falls to <strong>4009<\/strong>. Other survivors still on the Tyne and Wear Metro system (but not necessarily available for service) are <strong>4014<\/strong>, <strong>4015<\/strong>, <strong>4020<\/strong>, <strong>4023<\/strong>, <strong>4024<\/strong>, <strong>4026<\/strong>, <strong>4027<\/strong>, <strong>4029<\/strong>, <strong>4032<\/strong>, <strong>4035<\/strong>, <strong>4041<\/strong>, <strong>4042<\/strong>, <strong>4050<\/strong>, <strong>4056<\/strong>, <strong>4060<\/strong>, <strong>4061<\/strong>, <strong>4065<\/strong>, <strong>4068<\/strong>, <strong>4069<\/strong>, <strong>4071<\/strong>, <strong>4078<\/strong>, <strong>4079<\/strong>, <strong>4081<\/strong>, <strong>4085<\/strong>, <strong>4087<\/strong>, <strong>4089<\/strong> and <strong>4090<\/strong>.
