The fleet in Hong Kong is the biggest operational double deck fleet in the world and the network only includes double deckers with no single deckers to be seen. The tramway has always been electric powered, it runs on a 3\u20196\u201d gauge and includes 19 miles of line between Kennedy Town and Shau Kei Wan plus a branch through Happy Valley.<\/p>\n<p>This 2009 view shows tram <strong>79<\/strong> in action carrying the traditional dark green livery. This tram was originally built in 1951 before being rebuilt in 1987 and then withdrawn in 2014.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1.79-jh.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-61557\" src=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1.79-jh-550x413.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1.79-jh-550x413.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1.79-jh-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/1.79-jh.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then we see the rather spartan upper deck interior of the tram. Since the trams are unidirectional all seats face in the forward direction.
