The long building on the left (now christened The Red Sandstone) was built in the 1930s by the London Midland and Scottish Railway as offices for their Leith Walk goods depot behind. Threatened with demolition a few years ago, the developer was forced to backtrack after community protests and refusal of planning permission and new businesses have arrived after refurbishment. Leith Depot bar and venue on the left actually never left – it presumably takes its name from the former tram depot (now demolished) across the road.
