{"id":60788,"date":"2025-11-07T22:00:04","date_gmt":"2025-11-07T22:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=60788"},"modified":"2025-11-07T19:16:28","modified_gmt":"2025-11-07T19:16:28","slug":"scrappings-and-new-trains-into-service-galore-on-tyne-and-wear-metro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=60788","title":{"rendered":"Scrappings and new trains into service galore on Tyne and Wear Metro"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has been a very busy week for fleet changes on the Tyne and Wear Metro with four old trains being sent for scrapping whilst another two of the new Stadler built trains have entered service for the first time.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The scrappings started off on Monday 3<sup>rd<\/sup> November when <strong>4047<\/strong> was sent by road to J Denham Metals (having been picked up from Howdon where it had been moved by rail as usual). Then Tuesday 4<sup>th<\/sup> November saw <strong>4030<\/strong> leave, Wednesday 5<sup>th<\/sup> November it was the turn of <strong>4086<\/strong> to depart and then on Thursday 6<sup>th<\/sup> November we said goodbye to <strong>4069<\/strong> for the very last time.<\/p>\n<p>This now makes it 44 trains having gone for scrap \u2013 only just less than half of the total fleet. But if you include other depatees (<strong>4001<\/strong> for preservation and <strong>4019<\/strong> to the fire service) it means we have gone over 50% of the total fleet as having departed the Metro for the last time.<\/p>\n<p>But on the more positive side there have also been two more of the Stadler trains enter service. <strong>555 017<\/strong> was first out of the blocks when it was used in service on Tuesday 4<sup>th<\/sup> November and then Thursday 6<sup>th<\/sup> November saw <strong>555 018<\/strong> carry its very first fare paying passengers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>555 017<\/strong> had been delivered on 20<sup>th<\/sup> June 2025 whilst <strong>555 018<\/strong> arrived in the northeast on 10<sup>th<\/sup> July 2025.<\/p>\n<p>24 of the Stadler trains have now entered service.
