Although the weather has been cooling and becoming less settled it was a month which still saw the open top double deckers dominating the mileage with the usual top three.

Of course, those top three are the newest built from scratch trams – 9, 11 and 10. 9 ran the most miles with 762 miles recorded with 11 then running 750 and 10 coming in bronze medal position at 546 miles.

Four trams in the fleet didn’t run at all in passenger service during the month – 4, 6, 12 and, perhaps surprising considering the time of year, 19.

For 6 that is mostly down to the fact that it has been taken out of service for a small refurbishment and repaint. Whilst Works Car 02 was out of service undergoing its own overhaul, 6 had been used by the track team and so its needed some TLC to bring it back into regular passenger use. This will see a new paint job, whilst the seats will be sanded, polished and revarnished. All being well the tram should return to normal use in 2026.

Tram mileage for October:

9 – 762 miles

11 – 750 miles

10 – 546 miles

14 – 468 miles

16 – 384 miles

15 – 312 miles

8 – 294 miles

2 – 72 miles

4 – 0 miles

6 – 0 miles

12 – 0 miles

19 – 0 miles

Whilst the main operating season ended on Sunday 2nd November that doesn’t mean the tramway will go into complete hibernation as from Friday 28th November it’s the return of the Polar Express Tram Ride.
