{"id":60541,"date":"2025-10-18T22:00:57","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T21:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=60541"},"modified":"2025-10-18T19:27:57","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T18:27:57","slug":"more-new-metro-trains-carry-their-first-passengers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=60541","title":{"rendered":"More new Metro trains carry their first passengers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There have been a further three of new trains on the Tyne and Wear Metro which have entered service since our last update, bringing the total number used so far up to 22.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The latest three to have entered service have been <strong>555 001<\/strong>, <strong>555 013<\/strong> and <strong>555 038<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>555 001<\/strong> was the first of those to be used with it seeing use on 26<sup>th<\/sup> September 2025. The first numbered of the Stadler built trains it was delivered to Gosforth Depot on 19<sup>th<\/sup> April 2024 but hadn\u2019t been seen out on test a huge amount until relatively recently. And then it was a pretty quick entry into service.<\/p>\n<p>Then 14<sup>th<\/sup> October 2025 saw <strong>555 038<\/strong> carry its first passengers, which is now the highest numbered unit to have been used in service. This one was only delivered on 10<sup>th<\/sup> July 2025 and so its only taken just over three months to be used in anger for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>The last of the trio to be used for the first time was <strong>555 013<\/strong>. This entered service on 16<sup>th<\/sup> October 2025, having been delivered to the Tyne and Wear Metro on 16<sup>th<\/sup> December 2023 \u2013 almost two years for that one showing the big contrast in how long it takes some trains to be used for the first time!<\/p>\n<p>Nexus had said that by the end of 2025 they planned for half of the fleet to have entered service. With 46 on order that works out as 23 so as we have now had 22 used it either means there is only one more to come in the next couple of months or they will beat the target!<\/p>\n<p>For the record those units to have been used have been <strong>555 001<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>555 009<\/strong>, <strong>555 011<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>555 016<\/strong>, <strong>555 020<\/strong>, <strong>555 021<\/strong>, <strong>555 027<\/strong>, <strong>555 028<\/strong>, <strong>555 031<\/strong>, <strong>555 035<\/strong> and <strong>555 038<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <strong>555 010<\/strong>, <strong>555 017<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>555 019<\/strong>, <strong>555 032<\/strong>, <strong>555 034<\/strong>, <strong>555 036<\/strong>, <strong>555 037<\/strong>, <strong>555 039<\/strong>&#8211;<strong>555 041<\/strong> and <strong>555 043<\/strong> have been delivered to Gosforth Depot.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_60543\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/019-th.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60543\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-60543\" src=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/019-th-550x367.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/019-th-550x367.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/019-th-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/019-th.jpg 1275w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-60543\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">555 019 is one of those yet to be used in service but has been out on driver training and testing.
