The Light Rail Standards and Safety Board (LRSSB) have been reflecting on the success of their major safety campaign aimed at reducing the number of collisions between pedestrians and trams a year after its initial launch. The \u201cTwo Lines = Stop\u201d campaign was originally launched in Edinburgh and Blackpool and since then networks in Manchester, Sheffield and the West Midlands have also joined in to help tackle one of the biggest risks to tramway safety. Most recently Nottingham have started using the signage.<\/p>\n

The campaign uses eye-catching signage at key locations, each system having specially tailored branding for each network. In addition striking graphics have been used on social media to really try and get the safety message across.<\/p>\n
Carly Swift, Marketing and Communications Manager at LRSSB, said: \u201cWe initially rolled out our pedestrian safety campaign in Blackpool and Edinburgh during the same awareness week, organised by Rail Forum, in 2024. Since then, networks in Manchester, Sheffield and the West Midlands have climbed aboard, adopting our bold message, \u2018Two Lines = STOP\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are currently analysing the results of surveys carried out on networks that have embraced the campaign, and the early results suggest that the message is getting across.<\/p>\n
