Following last week\u2019s announcement of an unprecedented \u00a315.6 billion being made available to transport in Mayoral Combined Authority regions across England, with much of this set to be committed to light rail projects, more industry bodies have come out with positive comments of what it could mean for the future.<\/p>\n

It probably goes without saying\u00a0 that UKTram are all in favour of the news! Their Chair Steve Edwards said: \u201cI\u2019m\u00a0sure I speak for all our members in saying that the recently announced funding for public transport and particularly light rail is a real game changer.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis investment is a significant development that will not only improve journeys nationwide but also create numerous\u00a0opportunities for employment and skill development within the industry and our supply chains.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether it involves new systems, extensions, or renewals, we are committed to collaborating with our members and project promoters to ensure that the industry is well positioned to fully leverage\u00a0the potential this investment presents.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also coming out in support is the Light Rail Safety and Standards Board. They reiterated their commitment to ensuring that safety will always remain a priority when planning, designing and constructing new schemes or extending current networks.<\/p>\n
Carl Williams, Chief Executive of the LRSSB, said: \u201cClearly, the government\u2019s funding commitments represent a welcome step forward for light rail, and we stand ready to build on the excellent work that\u2019s already been done to ensure it remains one of the safest modes of public transport.<\/p>\n
