Earlier this year West Midlands Metro launched a competition amongst local primary schools to help design a bull for the forthcoming \u201cBull in the City\u201d art trail (think the Elmer trail in Blackpool last year but will bulls instead of elephants!), and now they have announced the winner although the actual design is remaining under wraps for now.<\/p>\n

The design by 11 year old Sakinah Begum from Regents Park Community Primary School most impressed judges and will soon be transferred to a bull ahead of the trail due to take place in the city this summer (16th<\/sup> July to 14th<\/sup> September).<\/p>\n Sophie Allison, Managing Director of West Midlands Metro, said: \u201cThis incredible project is all about bringing communities together to celebrate Birmingham\u2019s rich history and culture. We wanted to involve as many youngsters as possible. The response from local schools has been impressive, and choosing a winner was no easy task. The talent and enthusiasm shown by every student were truly inspiring, but Sakinah\u2019s submission stood out for its imagination, message, and vibrant use of colour.\u201d<\/p>\n The winning design will be featured on a miniature bull sculpture that will be presented to her school as well as a \u00a3250 prize. The winner and her classmates will also get a guided tour of Wednesbury Depot.<\/p>\n Artist Marnie Maurri will bring the miniature bull to life based on the original design concept, while Megan Smith-Evans will create the design for the full-size Metro Bull sculpture using inspiration from a legendary midlands-set television show, the name of which is not being announced just yet.<\/p>\n The Bulls in the City trail will be raising funds for Birmingham Hospice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Earlier this year West Midlands Metro launched a competition amongst local primary schools to help design a bull for the forthcoming \u201cBull in the City\u201d art trail (think the Elmer trail in Blackpool last year but will bulls instead of … Continue reading
