{"id":57716,"date":"2025-03-21T18:00:42","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T18:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=57716"},"modified":"2025-03-20T20:06:44","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T20:06:44","slug":"picture-in-time-blackpool-railcoach-678-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=57716","title":{"rendered":"Picture in Time: Blackpool Railcoach 678"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have another snowy photo from Fleetwood in January 1979 as part of this week\u2019s edition of \u201cPicture in Time\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Although the snow has largely turned to slush, maybe the slippery conditions underfoot \u2013 as well as the chilly temperatures \u2013 help to account for the low number of passengers on board <strong>678<\/strong> as it makes its way along Lord Street heading back south to Starr Gate.<\/p>\n<p>In 1979 Fleetwood Town Centre \u2013 or at least this part of it \u2013 was beginning to look quite run-down. Today it is smarter, though the Famous Army Stores on the corner of Mount Street have become a betting shop while the premises across the road once occupied by Taylor\u2019s and Dewhurst\u2019s are now a pawnshop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>678<\/strong> was one of three Railcoaches which were converted as part of the Twin Car programme but did not becoming permanently coupled to their trailers.
