Trams in Sheffield is hardly news, after all the Supertram system has been in operation since 1994 and 30 years before then we had the extensive Corporation tram system. But its not often that the two systems mix (except for when horse car 15<\/strong> returned to the city in 1995 and was displayed at Cathedral) \u2013 but that has changed with a new mural recently appearing alongside the modern tram network.<\/p>\n

Sheffield has a vibrant street art scene and over the years there have been over 700 pieces of art on the streets which have been logged and viewed on the Street Art Sheffield website (https:\/\/streetartsheffield.com\/<\/a>). Most of them have no direct link to this website, except for a recently applied one to the shutters at Wynsors World of Shoes.<\/p>\n

Wynsors World of Shoes is located directly adjacent to the Infirmary Road tramstop by the city centre bound platform. This platform is served by trams coming from both Middlewood and Malin Bridge to Meadowhall and Halfway on the Yellow and Blue routes respectively.<\/p>\n

The new mural features a number of different images, with the one which most interests us being Sheffield Roberts Car 516<\/strong>. Two of this class of 1950 built tram survive today (510<\/strong> at Crich and 513<\/strong> at the East Anglia Transport Museum), but 516<\/strong> was not so lucky with it being scrapped following the closure of the Corporation Tramways system in 1960.<\/p>\n

No more details are known of this new mural, which was being painted by the artist on the shutters on 13th<\/sup> and 14th<\/sup> March 2025.<\/p>\n
