Another period of consultation for the Wolverhampton city centre extension of Midland Metro is to be launched following changes to the proposed route to allow a listed building to be saved from demolition. The consultation is open now and will remain so until 9th December with a number of public exhibitions to take place regarding the changes.<\/p>\n

The building in question is the Grade II listed old Steam Mill off Corn Hill which was scheduled to be demolished as part of the plans for Midland Metro to head through Wolverhampton city centre and onto the railway station. It was originally planned that there would be a twin track and side platform at the railway station stop but the new plan would see a section of single track and platform located at the north of the old mill and closer to the station. Not only would this allow the steam mill to be retained it will also allow a vehicle drop-off and short stay parking area to be provided for the station.<\/p>\n
Cllr Judith Rowley, from Wolverhampton City Council and Centro, said: “Some respondents expressed concerns that our proposals involved the demolition of the Steam Mill building. To address those concerns we have identified a possible solution which will still see a partial demolition of the site but allow us to save the original part of the mill. However we still need people to let us know what their views are on this important scheme and I would urge them to contact us and tell us what they think.\u201d<\/p>\n
