Saturday 14<sup>th<\/sup> and Sunday 15<sup>th<\/sup> December will see Paul McCartney playing Co-Op Live, the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium and Disney on Ice at the AO Arena, not forgetting the continued Christmas Markets.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In preparation to get people to all of these events \u2013 and those just going Christmas shopping or out for Christmas dos \u2013 there will be Pop Up Park and Ride sites, to make it easier for people to get into the city centre. Booth Street West Car Park D will be available for people heading to see Paul McCartney with a shuttle bus then taking them to the event.<\/p>\n<p>Metrolink passengers aren\u2019t being left out either, with Sunday 15<sup>th<\/sup> December seeing Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground offering 500 spaces with anyone wanting to park there being asked just to show a valid Metrolink ticket for onward travel to the city centre, Etihad or Co-Op Live.<\/p>\n<p>Services on Manchester Metrolink will also be strengthened \u2013 as they have been throughout the pre-Christmas period. Every available tram is out on the network with an increased number of double units in operation.<\/p>\n<p>Danny Vaughan, Chief Network Officer at TfGM, said: \u201cWith Christmas fast approaching and huge events taking place at Co-op Live, the Etihad and AO Arena, we\u2019re expecting this to be the busiest weekend of the year. Manchester\u2019s economy is thriving, with loads of brilliant events and lots of people wanting to visit the city centre.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This time of year is always really busy in the city centre and our efforts are about making it easier for everyone \u2013 whether travelling by car, public transport or active travel \u2013 to support local businesses, get to work and meet up with loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re doing everything we can to keep the city moving and these pop-up park and rides are another great option, making it easier for those who want or need to drive to get into the busy city centre. We\u2019ve almost 1,500 extra parking spaces that will be free to drivers who can then make the last leg of their journey by bus or tram.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re continuing to encourage people to use public transport if at all possible, plan ahead and leave plenty of time for your journey.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are a range of great options that can save people time, money and hassle.
