{"id":56197,"date":"2024-11-24T17:00:30","date_gmt":"2024-11-24T17:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=56197"},"modified":"2024-11-24T08:41:38","modified_gmt":"2024-11-24T08:41:38","slug":"manchester-metrolink-then-now-market-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/?p=56197","title":{"rendered":"Manchester Metrolink Then &#038; Now: Market Street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In today\u2019s edition of \u201cManchester Metrolink Then &amp; Now\u201d we take a look at Market Street in the city centre.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As with last week\u2019s photo at Mosley Street, trams first ran on the section of line depicted in these two images on 27<sup>th<\/sup> April 1992 but things have changed somewhat even from then with the stop here originally being a single platform and a platform round the corner in High Street also provided. This is on the original city crossing again with trams coming from both Piccadilly Gardens and St Peter\u2019s Square serving the line on the way to Shudehill, Victoria and beyond.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_56198\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/2a.market-kc.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56198\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-56198\" src=\"http:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/2a.market-kc-550x367.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/2a.market-kc-550x367.jpg 550w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/2a.market-kc-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.britishtramsonline.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/2a.market-kc.jpg 1285w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-56198\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The \u201cThen\u201d photo was taken in 1989 and just like last week features a bus. This was being operated by GM Buses and features an advert for Hydes Anvil Brewery. This was founded in 1863 by Alfred and Ralph Hyde and continues to trade to this day, although under the simpler Hydes branding. The Debenhams store on the right has now ceased trading and is being \u201ctransformed\u201d in a \u00a370 million mixed use development.
